French Senate to Debate Genocide Bill Jan 23

Chamber of the French Senate at Luxembourg Palace in Paris

PARIS (Agence France Presse)—The French Senate on Tuesday said it will debate a bill to outlaw denial of the Armenian genocide on January 23, despite a diplomatic spat with Turkey.

The French lower house approved the law last month, threatening anyone who denies that the 1915 massacre of Armenians by Ottoman Turk forces amounted to genocide with jail.

Ankara froze political and military ties with France when the bill was passed by the National Assembly, and has threatened further measures if it continues through the Senate or is approved by President Nicolas Sarkozy.

France recognised the Genocide in 2001, but the new bill would go further, by punishing anyone who denies this with a year in jail and a fine of 45,000 euros ($57,000).

I hope it will be ‘A Lucky Day
    For slayed innocent Armenian Souls
    To breathe from their
    Uncanned graves In Der-zor Desert…
I hope God is there to hear their bleeding voices
As many being did not care…
    They lost Humanity
    They are worse than scavengers…
No one should call them beings…
God should curse them to end their genes…

No one should call them beings…

I would like to thank France and its valiant people for standing along with our people. Since the time of the Crusades (13th century) and during W.W. !, (1914-1918) France has been a big brother to Armenians all around the world. The French red cross hospital ship in Alexandretta (Iskandaroun, east of the Mediterranean sea) evacuated around four thousand valiant Armenians who put up a heroic fight against overwhelming forces of the Ottoman Empire. My mother (God bless her soul) and my grand parents were among the heroic Armenians who were rescued and taken to Port-Said, Egypt and later on to Beirut Lebanon.

Many Armenians later on joined the Foreign Legion of France as a gesture of gratitude to France. We are sure again that France will honor its commitment to the Armenian people and pass the Genocide denial bill in the Senate.

Thank you again France it is because of you that I am alive today. Long live France and Armenia.
