Asbarez Editor Ara Khachatourian sat down with Vartan Oskanian on Wednesday to discuss the recent charges of money laundering brought up on Monday by Armenia’s National Security Service. The former foreign minister’s views on several issues of national interest including the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resolution process and his return to politics.
Asbarez would like to thank its colleagues at Yerkir Media for producing the interview.
Why is the Armenian government prosecuting a respected and proven leader of our great nation on trumped up charges of money laundering now? Is it perhaps because they all know that Mr. Oskanian poses a political threat as a visionary leader who has proven himself more than capable of defending the legal rights of our people on the international stage. This charade will only garner more support for Mr. Oskanian politically.
The Armenian government should instead be filing a lawsuit on behalf of the Armenian people against the Republic of Turkey for stolen monetary and non-monetary assets.

Now he gets the dose of the medicine his boss, Robert Kocharian, had no problem dishing out to others. Fully deserved, I say, although may be illegal.
You should also ask why ARF outlets like Asbarez and Armenian Weekly going out of their way to cover this story in a light favorable to Oskanyan. I have the feeling that it ties in with your correct assessment that Vartan is tied in with Kocharyan, and likewise it is well know that the ARF in Armenia was/is close to the former president as well!
Armenia has become an object of battle between the US and Russia, and the primary lever to dominate over Armenia is the presidential chair.
The question is which state, US or Russia, is real ally of Armenia?
Not really. Based the how both countries have treated Armenia, based on the geopolitical realities where one side needs a viable Armenia to protect its interests, while the other works with Armenia’s enemies and is only interested in the energy sphere, we can conclude that Russia is Armenia’s ally.
I ain’t crying for Vartan Oskanian. He has been an agent for Washington from day one. His wish to run for Armenia’s presidency was the last straw. Either expel him from the republic, jail him or put him up against a wall and….
