ARS to Mark 29th Anniversary at Gala Celebration

Guests enjoy ARS Gala kick-off event

GLENDALE—The Armenian Relief Society of Western US held a kick-off of the upcoming Annual Gala on March 7, 2013 at the Glendale Hilton Hotel.

The invocation prayer was recited by Rev. Fr. Ghevont Kirazian, the La Crescenta parish priest, who represented H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate of the Western Prelacy. He praised the ARS members for their God-pleasing, people-pleasing and nation-building services, particularly those for the orphans and the needy.

Lena Bozoyan, ARS Regional Executive chairperson, welcomed everyone and introduced the representatives of city and community organizations, sponsors and donors, and ARS Chapter executives. She emphasized that the ARS is dedicated to provide services to those in need wherever they may be and making a difference in their lives.

Bozoyan described the economic realities that have made it tougher to meet those needs, and shared her belief that the ARS members and donors, with their unwavering trust and faith in the ARS mission, will provide those needs, just as they have done it in the past: helping our brothers and sisters in Syria; in Artsakh and Javakhk; the elderly; the schoolchildren; and women and families through the social and counseling services.  Bozoyan thanked the Gala organizing committee and invited Jasik Jarahian, ARS General Manager, who heads the committee to carry on with the kickoff.

Jarahian noted that the burden of the ARS programs falls heavily on the chapters, which constitute the backbone of the ARS, and valiant supporters, whom she introduced. She was very confident of how successful the kickoff was going to be since the ARS benefactors, as always, were very supportive of the gala with their pledges. She thanked everyone for their support of the ARS, explained the details of the various sponsorship levels, and the program which included the Lou and the Dark Eyes Band and Armenian instrumental bands. By the time Jarahian completed several rounds of her presentations, 45 tables were secured, along with 20 candle lighters.

Jarahian announced that during the gala up to three members from each chapter and two honorees by the Regional Executive would be recognized. Dr. Nyree Derderian and Rita Hintlian are the Regional honorees for their long-time dedicated service. Dr. Nyree Derderian is a member of the ARS Sosse Chapter in Pasadena, California. Derderian is a managing partner and director of Societas Consulting Group, a non-profit management consulting firm, and a managing partner of LA Steel Design Group. Rita Hintlian has been a member of the ARS Sevan Chapter in Orange County. She is a Senior Environmental Specialist/Analyst in the Water Quality Department of the Orange County Water District.

The ARS Gala is scheduled for April 5, 2013, at 7 pm, at the Glendale Hilton Hotel,
100 W. Glenoaks Blvd., Glendale, CA. Reservations are required.
