Artsakh President’s Spokesman Has ‘No Expectations’ from Paris Meeting

Spokesman for the President of Nagorno-Karabakh, David Babayan

STEPANAKERT (ArmRadio)—The spokesman for the Nagorno-Karabakh President David Babayan confirmed that there have been intensive ceasefire violations at the line of contact between Artsakh and Azerbaijan over the past few days. Speaking to Public Radio of Armenia, Babayan said that there is no panic in Karabakh and no mobilization in the army.

David Babayan said he has no expectations from the meeting between the Armenian and Azerbaijani Foreign Ministers scheduled to take place in Paris on Jan. 24. According to him, only one issue can be discussed at the meeting – the need to maintain stability and peace in the region.

“The recent steps by Baku, the ceasefire violations, President Aliyev’s statements claiming that Armenia is Azerbaijani land, do not provide any grounds for the discussion of other issues,” Babayan said.

According to the spokesman, the habitual tension Azerbaijan creates ahead of important meetings pursues a more global purpose.

“It’s clear to everyone that the war between Azerbaijan and Karabakh will not be restricted to those two countries. We know that Azerbaijan will send its national minorities to the frontline. Lezgins and Avars live in Russia, while Talyshs live in Iran. In the case that the conflict resumes, they will stand to protect their brothers, especially if Azerbaijan is defeated. This will expand the geography of the participants of the conflict, and no one will benefit from this,” Babayan said.

According to him, Azerbaijan is trying to seize concessions from the international community through this mechanism of manipulation. For example, Azerbaijan seeks tolerance towards its violations of human rights and corruption, which Aliyev needs to maintain his regime.

“Thus, Azerbaijan is in no way interested in solving the Karabakh issue,” David Babayn said.

As for the recent attacks at the border, the spokesman said, “There is no fear, but we are worried and saddened by the death of an Armenian soldier.”

EVERY TIME THERE IS A VIOLATION BY AZERIS THERE SHOULD BE A RESPONSE BY THE OFFENDED AREA. ONLY THIS WILL BE UNDERSTOOD BY THE NUT CASES IN CHARGE.

Pray for the Armenian and Karabakh soldiers that are protecting our ancestral homelands every day – at the line of fire from its hostile neighbor Azerbaijan – which DID NOT exist before 1918 – an illusion in the mind of ALiyev and his cronies.
