ANCA Glendale to Spotlight Health Insurance at Community Meeting

ANCA-Glendale Neighborhood Connect

GLENDALE—ANCA-Glendale Chapter will be hosting its second Neighborhood Connect community meeting on February 9, 2014, from 10 am to 3 pm at the Isaac and Janet Kazanjian Hall of the Krikor and Mariam Karamanoukian Glendale Youth Center located 211 West Chestnut Street, Glendale.

Verdugo Jobs Center, Lion’s Health Insurance, Senator Liu’s Office and the City of Glendale have partnered with ANCA– Glendale Chapter to join in on helping community members understand Covered California, but further, to provide help with the online applications. Verdugo Jobs Center will hold a presentation on health insurance options at 11:45 am. Following the presentation, Armenian-speaking representatives will be readily available to help community members fill out applications online.

The first Neighborhood Connect was extremely successful in helping over thirty people with a variety of questions. The program’s launch was announced in December. Neighborhood Connect is designed to bring various municipal, state and educational institutions to one place, so that community members and various offices can interact in community dialogue regarding issues of utmost importance to Glendale residents. Organizations and governmental institutions in the community will have the opportunity to provide help, direction, community education and services every month at a different community venue in Glendale.

“This second Neighborhood Connect community meeting will aid those in need of more information regarding the Affordable Care Act, health insurance and the Covered California application. With so many changes in healthcare, we want to ensure that Glendale residents have access to information, proper resources, and one-on-one help with the application itself.”

The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) is a healthcare law, introduced by President Barack Obama on the 23rd of March, 2010. The goal of the act is to provide better access to affordable healthcare. Covered California, which took effect in January 2014 is a unique marketplace that creates opportunities for Californians to be aware of their options on choosing the right healthcare program. With the deadline being March 31st, 2014, ANCA Glendale is partnering with the Verdugo Jobs Center, the City of Glendale, Senator Liu’s office, and Lion’s Health Insurance to keep the public informed on all affordable healthcare programs.

The ANCA-Glendale advocates for the social, economic, cultural, and political rights of the city’s Armenian American community and promotes increased civic participation at the grassroots and public policy levels.

Organizations and institutions interested in setting up stations can contact the ANCA Glendale offices at 818.243.3444 or admin@ancaglendale.org. Feel free to contact ANCA Glendale Chapter with any questions.
