Artsakh President Says Stepanakert’s Inclusion in Talks Imperative

President of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic Bako Sahakian

STEPANEKRT—“We must continue the process of peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict and carry on with the efforts targeted at maintaining peace and stability in the region, because relative peace is preferable to large-scale war,” President of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic Bako Sahakian said at a meeting with the students of the Artsakh State University.

The President added, however, that this does not mean Artsakh is unable or irresolute to defend its independence and freedom, rebuffing any assault from the enemy.

“Every society that has passed through war and has seen destruction and suffered losses will not want this to repeat,” Bako Sahakian said.

Speaking about the negotiation process, the President said it will be impossible to reach a comprehensive settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict without the participation of official Stepanakert in all stages of the peace process.

“We will pursue the restoration of the full negotiation format by working actively in all interested structures,” President Sahakian stated.
