Artist Razmik Samvelts Among Artists Featured in Brand Library Exhibit

The exhibition at Brand Library Art Galleries, entitled 'Turmoil and Tranquility,' features four artists and will conclude May 9.

GLENDALE—Armenian-American artist Razmik Samvelts is among four artists whose works are on display at an exhibition entitled “Turmoil and Tranquility” at the Brand Library Art Galleries, which will conclude its run on May 9. The gallery is located on 1601 West Mountain Street in Glendale.

Razmik Samvelts is an Internationally-acclaimed artist, who paints from the soul, filled with pain and oppression and even anger.

Born in what was formerly the Soviet Union, Samvelts was trapped in a country which stifled creative expression, yet his masterworks contradict a past of chaos and turmoil. His paintings speak of a man who has conquered the unforgivable; the loss of creative expression from a government rampant with human rights violations.

Samvelts’ career as an abstract painter is deeply intertwined in Armenian culture, his personal artistic vision is closely interlaced with cultural events that have directly impacted the course of his career yet never limited by geographical, political or spiritual orders.

Samvelts’ source of work and understanding of art reflects through his journey. His work process is closely subjective and his personality brings his work to life. By linking impressionism and expressionism with abstract hieroglyphic images his message is a spiritual vision addressed to any individual, where life is about seeking the fulfillment of a predetermined purpose.

Turmoil & Tranquility, the new exhibition at Brand Library Art Galleries, showcases the work of four Los Angeles area artists working in a variety of media, including sculptural installation, oil on canvas, and mixed media. The artists explore the theme of the human experience which is informed by where we come from, the history that defines us, and where we end up. Each artist in his or her own way explores this theme related to the human experience from the stories pass down from father to son, the churning on an idea the leads to a breakthrough, and exploring family and cultural ties. These experiences and the ways in which they overlap pose many questions, making this a compelling exhibition that promises to engage gallery visitors.

The exhibition kicked off on March 29 and will conclude on May 9.

The other featured artists are Natasha June, Jill Knox and Jon Rajkovich all from Los Angeles.
