Requests Community Meeting to Discuss Rescue of Aleppo
WASHINGTON—Armenian National Committee of America Chairman Ken Hachikian called upon President Obama to “forcefully intervene on behalf of the defenseless and courageously struggling people of Aleppo.”
“Aleppo is under siege by jihadist armies,” opened the ANCA letter. “As I write to you, Aleppo is being brutalized by heavy and indiscriminate rocket fire destroying homes, churches, schools, medical facilities, and businesses. Age-old Armenian neighborhoods are disappearing at the hands of Al Qaida-affiliated terrorists, America’s avowed enemies, with the active support of Turkey. The people of Aleppo are left without shelter, without food, without water and with no means to defend themselves. They are held hostage between warring sides and are relentlessly targeted for slaughter by extremist forces. The Armenian American community cannot and will not accept U.S. inaction in the face of the brutal destruction of Aleppo.”
The ANCA letter closed with a request that the President convene “an emergency meeting of the broad-based leadership of the Armenian American community, including our civic, charitable, and church leaders, no later than next week to discuss the plan of action needed for the rescue of Aleppo.”
The full text of the ANCA letter is provided below.
Dear Mr. President:
Aleppo is under siege by jihadist armies. As I write to you, Aleppo is being brutalized by heavy and indiscriminate rocket fire destroying homes, churches, schools, medical facilities, and businesses. The Armenian American community cannot and will not accept U.S. inaction in the face of the brutal destruction of Aleppo.
Mr. President, this is no time for ordinary diplomacy. Whatever our position on the Syrian crisis, we, as Americans, cannot stand idly by while the people of Aleppo are being strangled to death. We ask you to use all your powers to forcefully intervene on behalf of the defenseless and courageously struggling people of Aleppo. The bombing of this city by Al Qaida-affiliated forces must be stopped at once. Aleppo must be saved. There can be no excuse for allowing this slaughter to continue or for permitting the Armenian community to bleed to death. The responsibility will be ours if we do not act now to stop this crime.
For this reason, we respectfully ask you to work with the ANCA in convening an emergency meeting of the broad-based leadership of the Armenian American community, including our civic, charitable, and church leaders, no later than next week to discuss the plan of action needed for the rescue of Aleppo. Needless to say, our community is already mobilized to work in partnership with your Administration for an effective response to this imminent threat.
Sincerely,
Kenneth V. Hachikian
Chairman
Armenian National Committee of America
Another letter should also be sent to Mr. Putin. He has as much of a say in the matter as Mr. Obama.
Why. Putin does not care what happens to the Armenians in Armenia and Artsakh what makes you so sure he would care about Armenians in Aleppo
It would have been more effective if the letter did not mention the Armenians specifically. It should have been broadly based for an appeal to the whole of the Aleppo population. I don’t think the US would risk men and treasure to rescue a group that represents 0.5% of the total population. There are much greater threats in the region for this to take precedence. Besides, letter campaigns are hardly effective, they see what’s going on and have most likely decided on their position.
Friends around the world- I feel compelled to inform everyone, and anyone, of the senseless destruction of lives and culture, once again, involving Armenians. This time…one year before the commemoration of the Armenian Genocide set into play by the Turkish government, the setting is in Syria. I understand that in the day to day life of most of us, what happens in remote places doesn’t concern us. But, I have chosen to interrupt your day with the news of terrorism taking place in that distant land. We Armenians can’t forget the unspeakable acts that wiped out 1.5 million humans….babies to grandparents…and we hope that the leaders of civilized nations will act to put an end to the attacks in Syria. Unfortunately, none of the world powers is taking a stand on our behalf. Not one has the guts to do anything decisive….not now, not in Bosnia, not in Africa, not anywhere. It will continue…but you should at least know.

ISRAEL awards Armenian doctor for saving Jews during the Holocaust:
.
Khachatrian, a military doctor with the Soviet Red Army, was taken prisoner during World War II. In the concentration camp where he was kept by the Nazis he HELPED MANY JEWS (Today’s Israelis) as a physician.
Haroutyoun Khachatryan, has been posthumously awarded the “Righteous among the Nations Award” by the Jewish “Yad Vashem” institute-museum.
.
In the early 19th century, Jews began arriving to Armenia from Poland, Iran and other areas – creating Ashkenazic and Mizrahi communities in Yerevan. More Jews moved to Armenia during its period finding more tolerance in the area than in Russia or Ukraine. Armenia gave ISRALIES sanctuary.
.
Today, unfortunately the same people (JEWS, ISRAELIS) have joined forces with some Arab leaders, Turks and the US/Allies to fund and arm terrorists to harm Armenians and Christians in Syria. They even harbor these terrorists. Terrorists? .. because they attack innocent/unarm people who have nothing to do with their argument.
US administration led by Mr Obama is the only power capable of stopping these atrocities.
There is no more time for criticism or smart talk. Mr Obama is the only hope to stop these groups from attacking innocent civilians.
Thanks in advance Mr Obama. God bless America.
If Al-Qaida is the enemy of USA how come USA is arming them in Syria. U.S. government is contradicting itself. I think Turkey is doing whatever some agents in U.S. government are dictating them.
I wonder what did Obama mean by saying CHANGE, CHANGE? is this the so called CHANGE he was promising to the people of United States? He should have been more courageous and told the Americans that his change meant more wars in the world and especially very unjust wars for the sake of the blood thirsty zionists whose complex is so many centuries old.
If USA is arming those extremist so called Muslims (I personally don’t think they are Muslims, they are paid mercenaries and we know who pays them). Why should the taxpayer of USA pay for the big dreams of those insane zionists? United States is hijacked by these criminals.
Enough is enough. There should be a limit to the atrocitis of these people. They are ruining the image of the United States.
The USA is not arming this group, they are helping FSA. Even there they are limiting their support in fears that weapons might fall into the hands of the extremists. If only from the start FSA was supported all this blood shed and destruction could have been prevented. You can thank Russia and China for that.
Recently there was a picture posted on the internet in response to the First Lady Obama. Mrs. Obama was promoting the release of the Nigerian kidnapped student girls by holding a sign that says “# Bring back our Girls.” Over 200 student girls were kidnapped by an Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram who are allegedly armed and supported by Turkish Government.
The response to the First Lady was a picture of a man holding a sign that says:
# Hashtags will not bring your girls back
# Highly Trained Operators will
# Stop Lazy Internet Activism
# You Are Not Making a Difference
# Warriors Are
So, # Save Kesab and # Save Aleppo did not save the Armenians. Hashtags, letters and signatures of save this and that; and soon #Save Mosul Armenians will be added on the list will not make a difference too. All you keybord commandos (unfortunately, the majority of our youth fall in this category), come up with a new tactic, you are only deceiving yourselves.
I agree with you brother. However, if there are no alternatives; sometimes “The pen is mightier than the sword”.
ISIS – the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, which is also known as ISIL – is an offshoot of AL-QAEDA….. US’s favourite.
This group keeps entering Turkey and exit from Turkey unopposed as they wish….
Everyone in Mosul ran away except the Turkish consulate Staff and their special forces who were “CAPTURED” but allowed to keep their arms…….
This is a bit suspicious. Turkey has a good relationship with ISIS. Are they trying to make it look like they are not friendly?
WHAT IS TURKEY TRYING TO PULL? .. Americans are almost certainly behind this.
Now they are attacking our church.
Same people attached KESAB and no one cared! Now, NATO is getting involved or may be pretending to. And.
The United States has pledged any “appropriate assistance” to help the Iraqi government fend off a rapid military advance by SUNNI MILITANTS (ISIS). Why not help Syria?
Why didn’t they help KESAB? Same people attached Kesab!
US administration LIBERATED Iraq after seven years of bloodshed. May be this is way people trusted the American administration – Thinking that they are in control and have done it right for a change. They made it worst like Libya.
There are as many as 1,000 armed opposition groups in Syria, commanding an estimated 100,000 fighters. These terrorists are all anti American and Israeli groups of people who are now being paid by Americans and allies including Israel/Turkey to kill each other and Christians.
Mr Obama can help stop all of these atrocities if so he wishes.
Thanks in advance Mr Obama. God bless America.
