Tigran Sargsyan Appointed Armenia’s Ambassador to US

Newly-appointed Armenian Ambassador to US Tigran Sargsyan

YEREVAN–President Serzh Sarkisian on Thursday issued a decree appointing former Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan to the post of Armenia’s Ambassador to the US, reported the presidential press office.

Sargsyan resigned his position as prime minister in early April, saying that he had informed the president of his intentions but was asked to stay on to manage the application to the Constitutional Court of Armenia’s controversial pension reform plan.

Reports of Sargsyan’s appointment surfaced late last month when Yerkir.am reported that government sources had indicated that the decision of Sargsyan’s ambassadorship was discussed immediately after he resigned his post in April.

On the day of his resignation, Sargsyan said on his Facebook page:: “Dear compatriots, back in February I made a request to the President Serzh Sarkisian to accept my resignation. The decision was weighted and conscious. We agreed to postpone presenting the application for my resignation taking into consideration a number of important state events and the need for holding the economic conference of Armenia’s Republican Party. I thank all the people with whom I worked and most of all to the President of the Republic of Armenia for trusting the high position of the Prime Minister to me. I wish the new government patriotic and productive work.”

Sargsyan served as Prime Minister since April 2008. He was last reappointed as Prime Minister in May 2013.

During his tenure as Prime Minister of Armenia, Tigran Sargsyan ran his office as a corrupt and despicable leader. His record shows that he was preoccupied with enriching himself and his friends. How can someone with such low moral standards represent Armenia in such an important post as ambassador to the United States. Shame on the President! Now is the time for Armenian-Americans to openly show their disapproval by organizing public demonstrations in front of the Armenian Embassy in Washington DC. We have stayed quiet for too long. That is why the government of President Sargsyan does what he wants and as he pleases. Give them a little run for their ignorance and tell them that enough is enough!

Really, corrupt, despicable, low moral standards? Seems rather harsh. Perhaps all of you are right, but from here, I don’t see any proof. Please enlighten me/us. Does anyone speak for this man? What has he done.? Enriching himself is the Armenian way of taking care of ones family. That is a good virtue in America.
