NEWPORT, Wales—Presidents Serzh Sarkisian and Ilham Aliyev on Thursday met with US Secretary of State John Kerry on the sidelines of the NATO Summit to discuss the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process.
Sarkisian and Aliyev presented their perspectives on the Karabakh conflict resolution process, with Kerry emphasizing the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
Kerry called on the two leaders to explore mechanisms for reducing tensions on the borders, also know as the Line of Contact, saying escalation of such tensions hamper the peaceful resolution of the conflict.
Kerry urged the two leaders to work within the framework of the OSCE Minks Group process, adding that political will from both sides would become the cornerstone for peace in the region.
This comes a day after Azerbaijan’s delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly announced its intentions to call into question the effectiveness of the Minsk Group process at the next meeting of the Assembly.
Earlier Thursday, Sarkisian addressed the Summit, challenging NATO on the Karabakh conflict, saying either peace will prevail in Karabakh or the continued threats of war will mar security in the region.
And yet Mother Russia with her finger in the pie is no where to be seen or heard on this matter??
It’s easy to criticize the West and NATO, but criticizing Russia is a different matter. You can’t bite the hand that feeds you (as well as controls your transportation, guards your borders, keeps your houses warm, etc.)
I agree with you Armenian
This meeting doesn’t mean sht
like this is gonna change anything
Sargesyan’s made timely and powerful statement he exposed the Turkish way of supporting peace…on Armenia’s expense…an old fashion and unacceptable way of consolidation process for Armenia …Turkey now can think twice….we will see what will be Turkey’s next reaction …if at all fake Tears?….
No Russia, no peace.
People have been flying in from outside and trying to tell Palestine their good ideas for 60 years and nothing has worked.
Kerry and Minsk will fail in the Caucasus.
Like Northern Ireland and South Africa only those involved can make anything happen and they will when they wake up and see that peace is the only way.
Draw a new line and get on with it.
Oh yeah better hurry before Putin grabs you.
Armenians of the world unite! If you don’t lay hold of your own destiny, then whom do you wish should “grab… you”?
