YEREVAN (Arka)—Cisco Systems Development Director Mario Mazzola has been chosen to receive the Global IT Award from Armenia’s President Serzh Sarkisian.

Synopsis Armenia director Hovik Musaelyan said Wednesday that Mazzola will receive the award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to IT development in Armenia. The ceremony is scheduled for November 11 at the presidential palace in Yerevan.

Mazzola is the fifth foreigner to get the award. The annual IT Award was instituted in Armenia in 2009 and its first recipient the following year was Craig Barrett, a former chairman and chief executive of Intel Corporation. One of the goals of the award is to encourage contact between some of the leading IT personalities of the world and the industry in Armenia.

Other recipients of the award are Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, Synaptics former chairman Federico Faggin, and Chairman of Semiconductor Industry Association Tsugio Makimoto.

“It is remarkable that Mazzola found time to spend four days in Armenia in November. I think that his visit will lay the foundations for new bilateral initiatives,” Musaelyan said.
