TEHRAN—“Turkey should remember its responsibilities while acting in the region considering the issues that are present in the region,” spokeswoman for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Marzieh Afkham, told the Mehr news agency.
Speaking to journalists, Afkham discussed the policy adopted by Turkey regarding Syria and Iraq and said, “We have stated already that Turkey should be more responsible for its actions and should not undertake any steps that could undermine the situation in the region.”
“At present the situation in the region is concerning, so we hope the Turks will act in a smart way and will not use the situation for their short-term interests,” Afkham said.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has reportedly had a phone conversation with the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavushoglu, discussing the decision by Turkey to permit military attacks over Syria and Iraq and condemning some of the methods used to fight terrorism in the region.
Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called for ground troops in Syria and Iraq.
Turkey betrayed the Kurds and the West, he will betray again and again. Turkey can’t be trusted.
