Rumors of Clooney Joining System of a Down Greatly Exaggerated

System of A Down's Wake Up The Souls Tour

LOS ANGELES—Rumors of actor George Clooney joining System of A Down on the group’s upcoming “Wake Up The Souls” tour are greatly exaggerated.

The band’s frontman, Serj Tankian told Asbarez “We have no information or knowledge about Clooney.”

The rumors were prompted by an unattributed—and unsubstantiated–item posted by the Yerevan-based Hraparak Jamanak, which reported the news as fact. This news was also picked up by other Armenia-based media outlets and was circulated on social media.

A subsequent—and obviously humorous—post by Tankian on his personal Instagram account was deemed by various media outlets in Armenia as confirmation.

The band announced, over the weekend, that System of A Down will return to the Los Angeles Forum on April 6 as part of the “Wake Up The Souls” tour. Tickets go on sale on Friday. Head to systemofadown.com for more information on the tour.

Our media has a history of publishing rumors as ‘fact’. Unsubstantiated and unverified news is constantly being disseminated through the mass media. To add insult to injury, there is also a healthy mix of baseless claims and conclusions based of fear, prejudice and other ulterior motives.
