Russia ‘Cannot Ignore’ Centenary of Armenian Genocide

Russia's Ambassador to Armenia Ivan Volynkin

YEREVAN (Arka)—Armenia is Russia’s strategic ally and Russia cannot ignore the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, Russian Ambassador to Armenia Ivan Volynkin said in an interview with Sputnik-Armenia.

He said the centenary of the first genocide of the 20th century will bring many visitors to Armenia, including heads of states and high level government officials, including Russian parliament and Senate members as well as president Vladimir Putin, “whose visit to Armenia will raise the level of the event,” Volynkin said.

Asked whether Putin’s visit to Armenia to remember the victims of the Genocide may affect Russian-Turkish relations, Volynkin said Russia has common interests with Turkey, which are “of pragmatic nature.”

“Our relations with Turkey are pragmatic, and Russian participation in the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide should not affect our relations with Turkey,” said Volynkin.

God bless Mother Russia. God bless our Hayrenik. And may God help protect the centuries old Russo-Armenian friendship from all enemies both foreign and domestic.

Russia is using this event to put the squeeze on Turkey. It has nothing to do with Armenian interests, Russia is showing off to Turkey what it can do if Turkey abdicates any future negotiations. Once Turkey buckles, Russia will be first to jump the Armenian ship.

Good! We are happy to have Russia as our ally. Hayer! We should realize how important Russia is for Armenia. Let’s hope it will stay like that until the end of the world.
