Turkey Failed to Stifle Genocide Centennial, Says ARF Director

ARF Political Affairs Director Giro Manoyan

YEREVAN (ArmRadio)—“The tsunami of the centennial of the Armenian Genocide Turkey was so afraid of is already a fact,” the Armenian Revolutionary Federation’s Political Affairs Director, Giro Manoyan, told reporters in Yerevan on Monday.

Manoyan said, “Turkey has failed in its attempt to leave the Armenian Genocide centennial events in a shadow by scheduling its Gallipoli commemorations for April 24,” adding that recent developments, like Pope Francis’ and the European Parliament’s recognition of the Armenian Genocide, have made an immense impact.

“With this step [scheduling the Gallipoli commemorations for April 24], Turkey attracted greater attention to our events,” Manoyan said. “Turkey’s policy of denial has failed.”

Manoyan said the “tsunami” will continue as a great number of historians, genocide scholars and politicians from different countries around the world gather in Yerevan on April 24.

Manoyan says he expects an escalation of tensions at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in the coming days.

“Azerbaijan is also dissatisfied with the EU Resolution, Pope’s statement and may express its discontent by creating tensions at the frontline,” he said.

It’s definitely on a momentum, but unfortunate our immediate neighbor to the north (Georgia) and an EEU partner (Belarus) have decided to conspire against us.

As I wrote elsewhere, someone needs to take a note of ANYBODY who is indecent enough to go to Gallipoli. By saying ‘anybody’, I don’t care who those attendees are, or what reasons they have. In a context like this, participating at Gallipoli equals to supporting the prototype of fascism. I would advise ANYBODY who’s still planning to go to Turkey to think again.
