YEREVAN (Armenpress)—The Minister of National Defense of the Republic of Cyprus Christoforos Fokaides visited Armenia and met with his Armenian counterpart Seyran Ohanyan on Wednesday. Fokaides told a press conference following the meeting that Armenia is one of Cyprus’ most important allies. The defense minister also stressed that Cyprus is ready to contribute to the advancement of Armenia-EU relations.

“Taking into account the fact that Cyprus is a member of the European Union, we are ready to have our contribution in any initiative by Armenia, directed at the development of relations with the EU,” Fokaides said.

Fokaides also met with Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian, where the two hailed the two countries’ close relations and discussed continuing cooperation in military and diplomatic spheres. Sarkisian noted that the Armenian people were grateful to Cyprus for the country’s support during the commemoration of the centennial anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
