CANNES, France (Arka)—Armenia will participate as a Country of Honour in France’s MIDEM music industry festival from June 5 to June 8 in Cannes, supported by the Armenian State Commission on the Armenian Genocide Centenary Commemoration, the Armenian Ministry of Culture and the French Embassy, and sponsored by the Tashir Group.
Armenia’s minister of culture Hasmik Poghosian said earlier that the festival is a chance not only to present Armenian culture on the international stage, but also to take the advantage of new opportunities at an event attended by producers and managers from different countries.
MIDEM has been held in Cannes since 1966. This year, MIDEM will recognize Armenia as its Country of Honour through a dedicated program showcasing its rich and diverse range of musical genres, art, fashion, cuisine and traditions.
“2015 will be a special year for Armenia. The country has produced a wealth of international talent in recent decades spanning all genres, either home-grown or emerging from the significant Armenian diaspora worldwide. So it is only fitting that Armenia should benefit from the platform offered by Midem to showcase some of its top artists to a global audience,” said Bruno Crolot, a music market director and festival organizer.
Armenia’s President Serzh Sarkisian has departed for France to attend the festival as part of an official visit.
