YEREVAN (ARKA)—Tourists who wish to travel to Tatev and visit the Wings of Tatev ropeway can now buy tickets in advance using the destination’s official website, tatever.am, according to Initiatives for Development of Armenia (IDeA).
Tatever.am is the first Armenia tourism website to sell tickets online, director of Wings of Tatev Vahe Baghdasaryan said.
“This tool is successfully used abroad, and our aim is to use the best international practices and help tourists better plan their time and enjoy their stay in Tatev,” said Baghdasaryan.
Wings of Tatev introduced the SKIDATA international online ticketing system to their website, offering online ticket purchasing services that comply with international standards.
The head of BigBek, the company that developed tatever.am and introduced the online ticketing system, Garik Giulasaryan, said that ticketing is integrated with SKIDATA systems. Users will have the option of picking the date and time of their visit, and the system will automatically give them available options within the chosen range.
Payments are made using a bank card, and banking software ensures the safety of transactions, Giulasaryan said.
Tatever.am has been updated to provide visitors an opportunity to buy tickets as well as get information about local sights, events, hotels, and guest houses.
The 5.7 kilometer aerial tramway, built by Austrian-Swiss Dopplemayer/Garaventa, transports visitors from the village of Halidzor across the Vorotan Gorge to the village of Tatev, within walking distance of the Tatev monastery, allowing tourists and visitors to bypass a 90-minute drive on a road in and out of the Vorotan River Gorge.
The cable car is part of a $45 million-dollar public-private effort to develop tourism at Tatev and in the overall region of Syunik. The aerial tramway was officially registered by a representative of the Guinness World Records as the world’s longest aerial tramway built to transport visitors.
