Levon Thomas was tragically killed

Levon Thomas, 20, a Los Angeles-based athlete and a member of the Homenetmen, was tragically killed on Saturday in an ATV accident in Tsaghkadzor, in the Kotayk region of Armenia. Thomas was in Armenia to take part in the 6th Pan-Armenian Games.

“It is with extreme sadness, that we share the unbelievable news of the passing of 20 year old Levon Thomas, Homenetmen soccer athlete representing our region at the 6th Pan-Armenian Games happening now in Armenia. Our condolences to his father, Aram Thomas who is a member of the Homenetmen Western USA Regional Executive Committee, his mother, Lena Thomas, as well as the entire family and friends,” said a statement by the Homenetmen Western USA Regional Executive, posted on the organization’s official Facebook page.

“During this extremely difficult time, our prayers and thoughts are with the family and we should all respect their privacy in grieving. Rest in peace Yegpayr Levon,” continued the Homenetmen statement.

The press service of the Pan-Armenian Games World Committee issued the following announcement Saturday.

“An accident took place in [the Armenian town of] Tsaghkadzor today on August 1. Levon Thomas, 20, who had arrived in Armenia from the US to take part in the 6th Pan-Armenian Summer Games left for Tsaghkadzor with some teammates and relatives on an outing prior to the official beginning of the games. The young man died there as a result of a road accident. Pan-Armenian Games World Committee expresses its deep condolences to the family, relatives and teammates of the young man.”

    So sorry to hear about this. I went to high school with Levon but was never very close to him. Nevertheless, I remember him as being a very positive and happy person. He was certainly taken before his time. It’s always the ones we least expect. I offer my condolences to his family and close friends.
