YEREVAN (Panorama)—Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Movses Hakobyan told reporters today, while commenting on developments in recent days on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and the line of contact between the armed forces of Karabakh and Azerbaijan, that the situation on the frontline is not something new for the Armenian army, which is in full control of the situation as tensions begin to ease. He recalled that the situation on the frontline was much more strained in July and August of 2014 as compared with the current situation.
Hakobyan indicated that it was the policy of Azerbaijani authorities that caused the recent escalation of violence.
“Every time the mediators start to work actively and organize meetings, Baku tries to aggravate the situation in order to blackmail the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs by saying that the situation allegedly does not suit them and they will take practical steps to solve the Karabakh problem in their favor,” Hakobyan said.
In his words, one also should not be surprised by Azerbaijan’s use of weapons supplied by Turkey. According to Hakobyan, this has always been done, and the Armenian side is aware.
“Instead of amending its sins, Turkey is escalating the situation in the region, trying to play a role in the resolution of the Karabakh conflict,” Hakobyan said.
