Armenia and China Discuss Development Projects

YEREVAN (ARMENPRESS)—Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, who is in China for a meeting of the Eurasian Economic Forum, met with Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Li Keqiang on Tuesday, the Information and Public Relations Department of the Government of the Republic of Armenia reports.

The Premier greeted Abrahamyan, thanking him for accepting his invitation to China and for Armenia’s participation in the Eurasian Economic Forum. Li said he highly valued the current level of Armenian-Chinese relations and expressed his confidence that Abrahamyan’s visit to China will further promote development and strengthening of cooperation.

Abrahamyan thanked Li for a warm reception, noting that the development of Armenian-Chinese relations is one of Armenia’s foreign policy priorities.

Abrahamyan and Li emphasized the importance of developing further cooperation between Armenia and China, and the realization of joint projects in the fields of infrastructure development, energy, transport, chemical industry, agriculture, tourism, science, education, culture, and aviation.

Abrahamyan and Li reportedly discussed investment projects in the construction of an Iran-Armenia railway and the North-South Transport Corridor. Li reassured China’s interest in the projects and expressed China’s readiness to implement joint projects in infrastructure development, industry, humanitarian and others fields.

Abrahamyan invited Li to pay a working visit to Armenia, which the Premier gladly accepted.

While in China, Abrahamyan also visited the Armenian embassy in Beijing for a reception in commemoration of Armenia’s Independence Day.

The Armenian delegation in China included Transport and Communications Minister Gagik Beglaryan, Economy Minister Karen Chshmarityan, First Deputy Chief of government staff Gurgen Dumanyan, Deputy Finance Minister Pavel Safaryan, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Manasaryan, and Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank of Armenia, Nerses Yeritsyan.

The event was also attended by representatives of diplomatic missions in Beijing, heads of Chinese government agencies and representatives of the Armenian community. Abrahamyan met with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Cheng Gopen at the embassy and discussed various issues on how to boost Armenian-Chinese relations.

While in Beijing, Abrahamyan is scheduled to meet with chairman of the Export-Import Bank of China Hu Xiaolian and Vice President of the Civil Engineering Construction Corporation Song Yong.

The Armenian delegation will travel to the city of Xian in Shensi province to attend the Eurasian Economic Forum. Abrahamyan will meet with Chinese State Council member Vice Premier Wang Yan in Xian.
