YEREVAN(Arka) — Armenia is very likely to get the European Union’s assistance to tackle the problems of Syrian refugees who found shelter in the country, Germany’s Ambassador to Armenia Matthias Kiesler, said today at a news conference.

The ambassador said the assistance can be provided through The German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).

At the beginning of March 2016, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said at a joint briefing with Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian in Yerevan that the European Union was considering whether it could support Armenia to help the integration of Syrian refugees.

According to the Armenian Foreign Ministry, Armenia has sheltered about 20,000 Syrian refugees and ranks third in the list of countries that have taken in the largest numbers of refugees per population capita.
