YEREVAN (—A memorial depicting a woman with a child on her lap, and which eternalizes the memory of the victims of the genocide of the Yezidis in Shangal (Sinjar) province in northern Iraq, was unveiled Thursday in Yerevan, Armenia.

“The woman symbolizes the Homeland, and the child—the Yezidi people,” Amo Sharoyan, chairman of Armenia’s ‘“Midia-Shangal’ Yezidi National Union” NGO Board, told reporters during the event.

The unveiling ceremony brought together Armenian MPs, Polish Ambassador Jerzy Marek Nowakowski, Ambassador Piotr Świtalski, Head of the European Union Delegation to Armenia, and representatives of international Yezidi organizations.
