GLENDALE—The Board of Regents of the Prelacy Armenian Schools announced the appointment of Sanan Shirinian as the new Principal of Ari Guiragos Minassian Armenian School, which has served the Santa Ana and greater Orange County communities since 1986.
Shirinian is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Women’s Studies and holds a Master of Arts degree in Human Rights from Columbia University in New York.
Shirinian is a high school teacher at Rose and Alex Pilibos Armenian School and a Senior Field Representative for California State Assemblymember Matt Dababneh. She is also an active volunteer for humanitarian causes and most recently traveled to Jordan to run various educational programs for children in the region’s Syrian refugee camps. From 2009 to 2013, Shirinian served as the Council Chairperson of the United Human Rights Council, and from 2013 to 2014, served as the Publication Editor-In-Chief for Haytoug Magazine. She has also been involved in community-based educational and social initiatives for many years, including as Director for AYF Juniors Seminar and leading a lecture series to more than 700 children at AYF summer camp.
Shirinian has also directed the AYF Youth Corps program in various cities throughout Armenia and Artsakh for thousands of local students. Under her leadership, the Youth Corps program has grown to attract a higher number of volunteers, and expanded to additional program sites that cater to many more children. Earlier in her career, she has worked as a Policy Consultant at the Hrayr Maroukhian Foundation Social Policy Institute in Yerevan, where she organized youth empowerment programs and social-democracy trainings. She is a frequent lecturer and coordinator for a variety of events in the Southern California Armenian community and beyond.

During Mrs. Zaher’s tenure as Principal, she has been able to lead the School to many successes and today Ari Guiragos Minassian Armenian School is prospering because of the standards of excellence championed by Mrs. Zaher. Having said that, we are truly excited and impressed with Ms. Sanan Shirinian’s vision for Ari Guiragos Minassian Armenian School and the work she’s done in building a stronger community for our children to thrive,” said Lisa Gaboudian, Chairperson of the Board of Regents of Prelacy Armenian Schools.
“Ms. Shirinian has a proven leadership expertise within the Prelacy Armenian Schools and significant potential. Her skills and disposition match the characteristics parents, students and staff look for in their Principal. There is no doubt that Ms. Shirinian will continue to move Ari Guiragos Minassian Armenian School in a positive and productive way,” added Gaboudian.
