Recently, the Homenetmen Regional Executive organized an event honoring the publication of compiled pieces from Shavarsh Krissian’s “Marmnamarz” sports periodical. Krissian is well-known as one of the founding members of Homenetmen.
The same belief and faith that Shavarsh Krissian placed in the importance of sports and athletic activity remains alive in Homenetmen today as the organization follows the same objective of promoting sporting activities. Each year, various tournaments are organized and held both between and within chapters, while gathering youth in a healthy and positive environment. The organization of such tournaments are entrusted to Homenetmen’s Regional Athletic Council, comprised of experienced members, including:
Quint Chemnitz, Co-Chairperson
Sako Kadehjian, Co-Chairperson

Njteh Cherchian
Hratch Arzoumanian
Raffi Varjabedian
Ara Kazandjian
Aram Thomas serves as the Regional Executive liaison to the Regional Athletic Council and administrative duties are carried out by Sevag Garabedian and Fred Babajanian.
Currently, the Regional Athletic Council’s main focus is organizing and arranging the tournaments associated with the Navasartian Games, as well as closely following their progression.
This year’s Navasartian tournaments include the sports of basketball, soccer, volleyball, track and field, swimming, tennis, and chess. Each sport has its own subcommittee for which the following members joined the Regional Athletic Council, including:
Lara Timas
Haig Achikian
Serko Achikian
Ara Jejeian
In what has sparked great interest, the Homenetmen Regional Executive reports that a Division A basketball team from the Homenetmen Sydney, Australia “Ararat” Chapter will also be participating in this year’s Navasartian Games. Basketball games, which began during the weekend of May 14-16, 2016, are already underway every weekend.
“The Regional Athletic Council does its utmost to ensure that the Navasartian Games are organized efficiently. We are pleased and encouraged by the fact that volleyball and soccer competitions are seeing a great interest from chapters and have large numbers of teams participating this year. In an effort to include the participation of distant chapters in individual sports, the Regional Athletic Council came to a decision this year to hold those competitions during the finals and festival weekend,” expressed Regional Executive Liaison Aram Thomas.
As a result of the efforts of the Regional Athletic Council, there have been great advancements made in encouraging the sports of volleyball and soccer. In the past, only a few teams participated in volleyball tournaments; however, this year, 21 teams will participate in tournaments, which will be held during the weekend of June 25-26, 2016.
Soccer tournaments will be held during the weekend of June 18-19, 2016 and 44 teams will be participating in various divisions. This year, the newly established Homenetmen Sacramento Lori soccer team will be participating with one team.
