YEREVAN (President.am)—President Serzh Sarkisian received on Friday, July 21 member of the U.S. House of Representatives Jim Costa. Sarkisian welcomed the guest and highly valued the visit of Congressman Costa to Armenia. The President underscored that in strengthening of the Armenian-US friendly relations the Armenia-US interparliamentary relations, which today are on a high level, play a special role.
The parties spoke about the Armenia-US agenda, including efforts aimed at boosting the economic relations and prospects of cooperation, discussed issues aimed at future, exchanged views on Armenia’s relations with the countries of the region, and the NK peace process.
Sarkisian and Congressman Jim Costa concurred that currently the Armenian-American relations are on the highest level in the history of the relations and that the political dialogue of the two countries is constant and efficient.
Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian also received Costa on Friday.
Welcoming the guest, Nalbandian highly appreciated the friendly partnership between Armenia and the United States, as well as the steps being undertaken in that direction. In this regard the Foreign Minister attached importance to the intensive cooperation established between the legislative bodies of the two countries, Public Radio of Armenia reported. Nalbandian thanked Costa for his efforts towards the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
Expressing gratitude for the reception, Congressman Costa mentioned that for years he has been pursuing issues of high importance for Armenia and the Armenian people in the U.S. Congress, and he is glad to visit Armenia to get first-hand information and exchange views on the regional problems and the ways to resolve them.
During the meeting, a wide range of issues on the expansion of cooperation between Armenia and the United States was discussed.
Nalbandian and Costa exchanged views on regional issues.
The Foreign Minister informed the congressman on the efforts being undertaken towards the Nagorno-Karabakh issue and the overcoming of consequences of the large-scale military actions unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) this April.
Costa mentioned that as the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair country, the United States will continue its efforts aimed the exclusively peaceful settlement of the issue through negotiations.
