LOS ANGELES—Match for Life, the 17th annual Gala of the Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry (ABMDR), will be held on the evening of Sunday, August 28, at the Glendale Hilton. The event’s major sponsor is Glendale Adventist Medical Center.

“We are very excited about our upcoming Gala, as a wonderful celebration that draws supporters from throughout the worldwide Armenian community,” said ABMDR president Dr. Frieda Jordan and continued, “We also very much look forward to honoring a number of individuals and organizations during the Gala, in recognition of their outstanding support throughout the past year.”

This year’s ABMDR award recipients include Dr. Nubar Boghossian, Man of the Year; Alvart Badalian, Woman of the Year; Sonia Nercessian and Tamara Ashjian, Esq., Volunteers of the Year; Vahan and Anoush Chamlian Armenian School, Organization of the Year; ABMDR New England Walkathon Team, Team of the Year; Softline Solutions, Business of the Year; and Tereza Hacopian, who will be presented with the ABMDR Lifetime Achievement Award.

Salpi Ghazarian, the director of the USC Institute of Armenian Studies, will serve as the Gala’s Mistress of Ceremonies. Gala guests will include scores of community leaders, elected officials, and representatives of local organizations and hospitals. The event program will also feature musical performances.

The Match for Life Gala will benefit the life-saving mission of ABMDR, by helping the organization expand its tissue-typing, outreach, and public-awareness work across the globe. Combined, these activities significantly help increase the chances of survival for Armenian and other patients struck by life-threatening blood-related illnesses through bone marrow transplants.
