GYUMRI, Armenia—On October 21, 2016, Daron Der Khatchadourian, Representative of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Western United States, traveled to Gyumri, Armenia and witnessed the continued progress and development of the Gyumri Shirvanian Youth Center. A project led by the Shirak Region Armenian Projects Committee of the ACF Western United States, the Center’s grand opening was held in July 2016.
The visit allowed Der Khatchadourian the opportunity to meet with representatives of the ARF Supreme Body of Armenia and the Provincial Gomideh to discuss the Shirak province, the impact of the center, and future collaborations between the two regions. Thereafter, he met with local representatives of the Armenian Youth Federation in Gyumri, along with students that participate in various activities at the center.
“I had the opportunity to meet boys and girls that are growing up with the national spirit within them. I have no doubt that with the right leadership and course of this center, which is already adding meat to the bones of the Gyumri youth by creating a bond with them, it will provide more meaning and spark to these four walls, forming a new era in the important region of Gyumri,” stated Der Khatchadourian.
Since its grand opening, the Gyumri Shirvanian Youth Center is now open year-round and has been actively engaging youth and young adults in the area through foreign language, computer, music and dance classes. Recently, the center opened a Debate Club and is preparing for an Autumn Day Camp in the upcoming week.
The “We Are Gyumri” campaign remains committed to making a long-lasting impact on the youth in Gyumri and throughout the Shirak province. Given the large number of youth benefiting from programs offered, the Center is fulfilling its promise to serve as a cultural, educational and social site in Gyumri.
