YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)Armenia does not consider it necessary to publicly respond to the US State Department’s 1996 Human Rights Report–Jirayr Libaridian–Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s advisor–announced at a recent news conference.
Libaridian said that a section of the report related to Armenia contained "multiple mistakes" and that the Armenian side has reported the mistakes to US representatives.
Libaridian told reporters that the State Department issues the report annually at the request of the US Congress which is prompted by certain political goals.
Asked why the Turkish government publicly denounced the report–Libaridian said that– apparently–the situation in Turkey is described in the report as unfavorable for their country. "Sections dealing with the situations in Turkey and Azerbaijan are incomparably bigger than the one dealing with the situation in Armenia. If you read them [reports on Turkey and Azerbaijan] then you get the impression that we are living in paradise," Libaridian said with a smile.
