Armenian Refugee Film to Be Screened

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)A film about Armenian refugees living in Germany is expected to be screened during a conference dedicated to the problem of Armenian refugees in Germany.

The conference will be organized by the German Embassy to Armenia–Ambassador Karola Muller-Holtekemper announced at a recent news conference in Yerevan. She said that despite some improvement in living conditions–more Armenia’s emigrated to Germany in 1996 than the previous year.

The Ambassador also said that the German government would continue rendering economic assistance to Armenia–as well as implementing development projects through 1997–in particular–repairs at the Kanaker Hydroelectric Power Station–for which her government has already allocated some 25 million German marks. The repairs are expected to be completed this year.

According to Muller-Holtkemper–only two of the three agreemen’s signed by Armenia and Germany are being implemented at the present time. These are agreemen’s regarding cultural cooperation and the protection of gravesites of German citizens–the ambassador said–adding that a delegation to explore graves in different areas of Armenia and to specify the sum for the German government to donate for the repairs and restoration is expected to visit Armenia this year.

According to the ambassador–the implementation of the third agreement–"On Mutual Protection and Promotion of Investment," has not taken effect because the Constitutional Court of Armenia has not ratified it yet. She said it was one of the main impedimen’s to further development of relations between the two countries.
