Jilavian Freed After 1.5 Years in Prison

MOSCOW (Azg)Chairman of the International Armenian Assembly–Serge Jilavian–who served one and a half years in prison for illegal possession of weapons– was freed on March 3.

Justice Maltsev freed Jilavian after considering his social position–his clean record and he has already served one and a half years in prison since the trial started.

Jilavian’s lawyers will appeal the ruling because they consider Jilavian an innocent man who was wrongly imprisoned.

The case was mainly dependent on the testimony of Jilavian’s bodyguard–Armen Karapetian– who was imprisoned with Jilavian but died nine days ago in prison.
