YEREVAN–March 12 (Itar-Tass) – Russian Minister of Culture Yevgeny Sidorov met members of Armenia’s Russian community and intellectuals on Wednesday to urge them to reinvigorate cultural ties with Russia.

The meeting was held in Yerevan’s Museum of Russian Art–the centrepiece of which is a collection of a Moscow doctor–Professor Aram Abramyan.

"I am particularly alarmed by the fact that our cultural–and especially literary–ties have grown weaker over the last few years," Sidorov said.

He stressed the need for Russian and Armenian cultural figures to meet each other more often and more actively contribute to the Moscow-based magazine Druzhba Narodov.

During his visit to Armenia–Sidorov signed a protocol on Russian-Armenian cultural cooperation that calls for exchange of exhibitions and tours by artists–performers–musicians and other cultural figures.

Sidorov pledged to find funds for Yerevan’s Russian Drama Theatre named after Konstantin Stanislavsky–and provide assistance to Armenia’s Russian community.
