Russian troops in Armenia help region’s stability …

MOSCOW–March 20 (Itar-Tass) – An Armenian lawmaker on Thursday said Russian troops stationed in Armenia contribute to peace and stability in the region.

"There is a Russian military base in Armenia; Armenia-Turkish border is protected by the joint Russian-Armenian border guard service–and in our opinion this meets the objective to maintain peace and stability in the region," deputy speaker of Armenia’s National Assembly Ara Saakyan told a new conference which wound up a visit to Russia by a delegation of Armenian lawmakers.

Deputy speaker of Russia’s State Duma lower house of parliament Sergei Baburin told reporters that the Armenian delegation had been informed on the progress of integration between Russian and Byelorussia.

According to Baburin–his statement that any country can join the integration process–aroused the Armenian lawmakers’ interest.

"The post Soviet period sets similar objectives for the parliamen’s of the two countries," Saakyan said–adding that it explains "the full understanding" between them.

Baburin and Saakyan also stated that strategic partnership of the two countries necessitates regular and direct contacts between Russian and Armenian lawmakers.
