Armenia and Iran to Construct Highway

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)The construction of the 3500-meter tunnel in Meghri was discussed during a recent meeting between Armenian Transport Minister Henrik Kochinian and an Iranian delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmud Vayezi.

Kochinian said that they had already agreed to a loan agreement which is to be prepared through joint efforts within the next month. The agreement is expected to be signed in April.

The Iranian side will not only provide financial support but they will also participate in the construction of the highway. The construction of this strategically important tunnel will improve the transport communication between Iran and Armenia.

The sides also agreed to accelerate the construction of the Kajaran-Meghri section of the highway.
