BSEC Committee Approves Customs Formalities Facilitation

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–At the eighth session of the BSEC Parliamentary Assembly’s Committee for economic–trade–technological and ecological issues–which opened on Thursday in Yerevan–a draft proposal on the facilitation of customs formalities among BSEC member-states was considered and approved with a number of amendmen’s. The document says that–"To stimulate free trade–promote economic progress and cooperation–achieve welfare–stability and peace in the Black Sea region is the aim of BSEC and the BSEC Parliamentary Assembly. The rules for BSEC integration must be clear and should not create obstacles on the way of trade." The authors of the document say that the goal can be achieved provided member-states are able to establish a stable and predictable legal structure acting both for domestic and foreign firms. "The need to make progress and take concrete measures urges to create a special coordination mechanism which is the primary task for a successful implementation of the project. At the same time–since BSEC answers for stimulation of national governmen’s to accept agreemen’s on customs rules–BSEC Parliamentary Assembly must work in a close cooperation with national parliamen’s–persuading them to back these agreemen’s and ratify them"–the document reads.
