Scientist?s Theory Offers Preventive Solutions to eye Disease

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A new theory of eye movemen’s proposed by Armenian scientist Varlam Galoyan not only explains certain eye diseases–but often helps to prevent such visual defect. The theoretical model of eye movement is based on 43 scientific disciplines–including physiology–mathematics–biophysics–ophthalmology and others. The model describes all main interactions of the eyeball and its environment–taking into account hydro-mechanical force and friction–which are–at times–neglected in the traditional approach. Galoyan’s model explains the appearance of different types of strabismus–short-sightedness and several other eye diseases. According to the theory–in most cases visual defects emerge within the first months of life–when the child lacks co-ordination of eye movemen’s–and the sharpness of vision is minimal. To form a good vision and equal development of both eyes–Galoyan suggests to evade mechanical strain of the eyeball–which happens through the negative pressure formed through the incorrect position of the body and head of the child. For example–if a child lies with his face down for a long time–there is a possibility of appearance and development of progressive short-sightedness. This fact had been experimentally proven in the 30’s–however–the scientific reasoning is now available in Galoyan’s theory. The author sees a practical way out of the prophylactic ophthalmology. According to him–formation of the eyeball can be regulated in different ages–using a static loading on the eyeball via setting child’s body and head in a certain position–for example–on the back. The work is being done through assistance of the Russian Institute for Information Transmission. The results have been presented at international conferences and published in the leading scientific editions of the former USSR and abroad.
