AYF Central Executive Plans April 24 Protest

GLENDALE–The Armenian Youth Federation Central Executive has organized a protest rally at the Turkish Consulate in Los Angeles on Thursday–April 24–1997 at 10 a.m. The AYF-CE issued an announcement calling on the community to join this protest on the occasion of the 82nd anniversary of the Armenian Gencoide. Below is the text of that announcement.

Fellow Armenia’s:

It is that time of year again when traditionally Armenia’s throughout the world come together to commemorate the Armenian Genocide and make their voices heard in protest of the unjust atrocities committed against the Armenian people by the Turkish state.

As in previous years–the Armenian Youth Federation has organized a protest demonstration at the Turkish Consulate in Los Angeles–the representatives of the current Turkish state in our area.

We would like to invite each and every Armenian to join us in this important protest rally which is scheduled to take place on Thursday–April 24–1997 at 10 a.m. at the Turkish Consulate (Wilshire and June) and make your protest heard to the Turkish authorities.

We have witnessed a new surge in Turkish revisionism–especially as it pertains to the Armenian Genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman Turkish government in 1915 and continuously denied by the current Turkish state which is embroiled in perpetuating its predecessor’s lies and covering up a murderous policy.

The Turkish state–through major investmen’s and lobbying–is funding the establishment of Turkish studies chairs throughout this country to promote historical revisionist activities to tell–and teach–"their side" of the story.

We as Armenian youth must join forces to combat this revisionist epidemic and should march together in protest. The larger our numbers–the more effective our message.

Join us on April 24 and let us–together–protest this inhumane act committed against our beloved ancestors.

The Armenian Youth Federation calls on all Armenian youth organizations–schools and community members to mark the 82nd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide by taking part in this protest rally and together raise our voices for justice.
