POWs Released According to Red Cross List

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Ten detainees were released Tuesday under the auspices of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Four POW’s from Azerbaijan–who have been regularly visited by ICRC delegates–were unilaterally released by the Armenian authorities and repatriated to Baku. Six other detainees from Armenia–who have also received ICRC visits–were freed by the Azeri authorities and repatriated to Yerevan.

The releases follow an appeal made by the three co-chairmen of the Minsk Group of the OSCE.

The ICRC encourages the Azeri authorities to carry out further releases in the coming days–and trusts that the Nagorno-Karabakh authorities will give favorable consideration to the Minsk group appeal.

Furthermore–the ICRC also reminded all the parties concerned that it is of vital importance to set up a process that will allow to clarify the fate of persons reported missing and thereby put an end to their families’ anxiety. Any amalgamation between the issue of persons still detained and that of missing persons must–however–be avoided.
