Defense Ministry Refutes Azeri Charges on Border Incidents

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenia’s Defense Ministry Thursday denied reports by Azerbaijan–alleging that 10 Armenian servicemen were killed in the Monday border incident.

"This is simply false," said deputy chief of the department of information of Armenia’s defense ministry Hrachia Charchkhian.

ANS-press news agency disseminated the following report by the Azeri defense ministry:

"At 12:30 p.m. on April 14–Azerbaijani positions were shelled from the Ijevan region in Armenia. Large-caliber machine-guns–assault rifles and grenade dischargers were used in the shelling.

However–according to the reports of the Azerbaijani defense ministry–having lost three servicemen Armenia’s returned to their initial position.

Besides–at approximately 8 p.m. Armenia’s made another attempt to attack the Azerbaijani positions–which was curbed. After the shelling had ceased–the Azerbaijani side created conditions for taking the bodies of 10 killed and wounded Armenia’s from the skirmish site.

However–the following day–April 15–the Armenian side renewed the shelling–but after the fire was returned the situation became relatively normal."

Earlier the Armenian defense ministry had reported about the border incidents which took place in the north-eastern section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border on April last last week.

There were no reports about the Monday border incident.
