Hovanessian Appeals Candidacy Rejection to Supreme Court

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenia’s Supreme Court Friday will consider the complaint lodged by Armenian Revolutionary Federation Executive Council member Vahan Hovhanessian against the decision by the Central Electoral Committee rejecting his application for candidacy the vacancies in the National Assembly.

The complaint will be considered Justice Council member Mher Khachatrian.

Hovanessian officialy protested Tuesday the CEC decision.

Hovanessian–who along with 30 other individuals–has been in custody since July 29–1995–charged with alleged attempt to overthrow the Armenian government–registered as a candidate for vacant National Assembly seats–but was rejected because of his status as a political prisoner.
