Telecommunication Redevelopment to Take Another Two Years

YEREVAN (Azg daily/Fact)–Complete reconstruction of the telephone system of Yerevan will take at least another two years. This according to a report by Armentel–the state enterprise handling Armenia’s telecommunication needs.

Although portions of Yerevan have been successfully reformed–the complete project will not come to fruition until the beginning of 1999.

Prime Minister Robert Kocharian and Minister of Communications Grigor Pokhpatian visited the satellite communications station Orbit–an Armenia-US joint venture.

Head of the Armentel Vartan Soghomonian said their company started redevelopment of the Yerevan telephone network and the international telephone network in Armenia with the use of contemporary electronic technologies. Telephone equipment of the Siemens company is already being installed in Yerevan
