Hovanessian Candidacy Rejection Politically Motivated

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"The Armenian Revolutionary Federation Executive Council of Armenia did not believe that Vahan Hovanessian’s candidacy would be met positively," Executive Council member Artashes Shahbazian said this week in regards to the denial of Hovanessian’s candidacy request for the National Assembly.

Shahbazian also emphasized that from the very beginning–the ARF Executive Council viewed Hovanessian’s candidacy bid as being purely political–and the request was denied for the same political reasons.

"The refusal by the Central Electoral Commission and the Supreme Court–which had no legal grounds–attest to the political motivation of the decision. As a matter of fact–the authorities continue the policy they have pursued since December 1994," Shahbazian said.
