New Military Service Law to Weaken Armenia

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"A new law on military service–which stipulates the service of every Armenian citizen at the age of 18 in the army–will completely destroy the higher education system in Armenia," said former presidential candidate Vazgen Manoukian during an interview with Noyan Tapan correspondents.

He stressed that the law would significantly weaken the Republic as well as the army. According to him–the authorities are searching for shallow and extremely wrong solutions.

"Both as a politician–a former defense minister and a teacher–I believe this law to be an absurd one. I think that Levon Ter-Petrosyan and the current authorities are squandering our heritage. I mean both the 70-year-old heritage of great education–the heritage of the Karabakh movement." emphasized Manoukian.
