Foreign Ministry Hopeful for Turkish Recognition of Genocide

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenian Foreign Ministry’s Spokesman Arsen Gasparian expressed confidence that after the establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkey and Armenia–Turkey will recognize the Armenian Genocide.

Regarding the statement by Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev about the irrefutability of the Genocide–Gasparian emphasized that this cannot serve as a condition for establishment of a dialogue and development of Armenia’s relations with her neighbors.

Gasparian also emphasized the importance of Armenian Foreign Minister Alexander Arzoumanian’s visit to the Erzerum and Trabzon regions of Turkey. According to him–people in these regions show great interest toward Armenia and the opening of Armenia-Turkey borders.
