“Trial of 25″ Suspended Indefinitely

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–At a session of the "September 25" trial Tuesday–Sergey Ohanessian–defense attorney for Vahe Beknazarian asked that his client be acquitted and freed quickly.

Ohanessian emphasized that the investigation had failed to establish any corpus delicti. According to the attorney– Beknazarian should not be made to answer because of his mere presence at the National Assembly building.

Under Article 74 of the Criminal Code of Armenia–criminal proceedings may be instituted only against organizers and direct participants of mass disturbances.

Prosecutor Georgy Pivazian did not respond to the defense requests–and once again–defendants Vahe Beknazarian–Argishti Kivirian and Abet Petrossian pleaded not guilty.

Earlier last week defense attorneys suggested that the correct people were not being prosecuted for these so-called acts.

The hearing of the case was suspended indefinitely.
