YEREVAN (Yerevan News Service)–The Armenian Relief Society of North America (Easter Region) announced Sunday the establishment of the ARS-North America Women’s and Children’s-Prenatal Care Center in the Shirak District of the Akhourian region.
The opening ceremony of the Center was attended by various community members–including Shirak District Director Ararat Gomtsian–as well as Chairwoman of the ARS Central Executive Vanouhi Issadjanian–Chairwoman of the Armenian Relief Cross Alvard Petrossian–ARS-North America Regional Executive Maro Minasian–as well as representative of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Bureau Mardun Matevosian.
Participating in the event were Armenian Minister of Health Ara Babloyan–as well as Deputy Minister Derenig Doumanian and Deputy Chairman of the government social services commission Ferdinand Badeian.
The honor of raising of the tri-color and the cutting of the ribbon was given to Babloyan–Gomtsian and ARS-Central Executive Treasurer Arpi Charkhoudian.
The Center is comprised of a variety of sections–including a number of laboratories–a library and a pharmacy. The Center will also be a resource for students and other interested individuals–as well as serve the medical and social needs of the community.
Minasian explained that the building of the Center had been conducted by the ARS-North America (Eastern Region)–at a cost of more than $500,000. The ARS representative also informed the attendees that the organization will subsidize the Center financially and otherwise for the next three years.
The Center will serve the six villages in the region with a population of 10,000 occupants.
