Ukrainian Parliamentary Delegation Arrives in Armenia

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"The visit by Ukraine’s parliamentary delegation is aimed at developing better relations between the two countries," said Alexander Moroz–head of a delegation of Ukraine’s Supreme Rada–who arrived in Yerevan Monday for an official visit.

He noted that both parliamen’s should strengthen and develop the ideas brought forth by the cooperation agreement signed in 1995.

In regards to the Russia-Belarus Union–Moroz said–"We respect the will of the Russian and Belarus people. They decided to build their relations this way. We cannot impede or complain over it. In my mind–Ukraine is not going to build its relations with Russia on these principles. In any case–these relations must be friendly–because we are closely connected with each other not only by our languages–but also from a political point of view."

"Our visit to Armenia comes at a time when Ukraine is going through a crucial formation of a democratic state. I am pleased to say that we have already gone through the period of stagnation between our two countries and now are increasing the cooperation in different fields such as political–economic and humanitarian. I believe the start of the current process was the Friendship and Cooperation Agreement signed by our presidents and ratified in our parliamen’s," said Moroz–addressing Armenia’s National Assembly Monday.

Moroz also elaborated on the turmoil in the Transcaucusus–saying that Ukraine wants to see the region "peaceful and prosperous."

"We believe that conflicts can only be settled through negotiations and on the basis of mutual respect. The current conflict is certain to be resolved sooner or later in a way acceptable to both sides."

Moroz also stressed the importance of the great contribution made by the Armenian community in Ukraine in helping rebuild the state.
