Turkey Concerned Over Armeno Greek Treaty

ANKARA (Xinhua)–Turkey Monday expressed concern over an Armenian-Greek program on military cooperation.

Addressing a weekly news briefing–Foreign Ministry deputy spokesman Sermet Atacanli said that Turkey was closely monitoring the latest development between the two countries. He said that Turkey was sensitive in this issue since it directly concerned its security.

Following a visit by Greek Chief of General Staff Atanasios Dsoganis to Armenia last weekend–the Armenian government said in a statement that the two countries would exchange military intelligence.

The statement said the two countries would also conduct joint military exercises–but within the framework of Partnership for Peace Plan of the NATO.

Turkey has long been at odds with Greece over a number of sensitive issues–including the Aegean sovereignty–mineral rights as well as the its occupation of Cyprus.
