ARS Western Region Convention Concludes in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS–The 77th convention of the Armenian Relief Society Western Region–hosted by the Las Vegas "Shoushi" chapter concluded Sunday with the election of five new members to the regional executive.

The convention elected Helen Keosian–Janet Karapetian–Mary Arabian–Terry Minasian and Rosie Betrosian to the ARS Western Region Board–while Hourig Aintablian–Alice Madenlian–Anahid Meymarian and Sona Peltekian will remain for another term.

The assembly convened Thursday at The Orleans hotel in the presence of delegates representing the Western Region ARS chapters–members of the ARS Central Executive and other invited guests.

Convention opening remarks were delivered by ARS Las Vegas chapter members Aida Kizirian-Strauss in English and Zepiur Saroukhanian in Armenian. The two ARS members expressed their sentimen’s regarding the meeting and welcomed all those present to the gathering.

ARS Regional Executive chairperson Alice Madenlian welcomed the meeting participants and briefly described the mission and responsibilities of a delegate.

Madenlian also invited Western Prelate Bishop Moushegh Mardirossian who blessed the convention.

Madenlian presented the guests of the convention in the following order: ARS Central Executive representative Valentin Berberian; Central Executive members Mako Mgrdichian and Haigoush Keghinian-Kohler; Armenian Revolutionary Federation Western US Central Committee representative Hovig Saliba; Hamazkayin Western Regional Executive representative Hagop Ovaian; veteran ARS member and members of the Las Vegas "Shoushi" chapter Malvineh Khandjian; Las Vegas Homenetmen representative Sarkis Mahseredjian; Las Vegas Armenian-American Cultural Organization representative Arpiar Babikian; as well as Las Vegas community member Henry Davitian.

Saliba–Berberian and Khandjian all made welcoming remarks–following which the prelate praised the ARS for its activities and stated that it was an honor for him to bless the ARS convention two weeks following his ordination as bishop.

Following the convention of the ARS general assembly–the "Shoushi" chapter hosted a welcoming luncheon for the delegates and guests.
