Earthquake in Noyemberian Causes Significant Property Damage

NOYEMBERIAN (Azg/Past)–A powerful earthquake centered in the city of Noyemberian Friday caused significant damage to the Tavoush province–the city of Noyemberian–the villages of Koghb–Berdavan and Dovegh.

Damage was also reported in the villages of Haghtanak and Zorakan. The head of the Northern Department of National Service for Seismic Protection visited the earthquake zone and declared the tembler measured 7.0 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was three miles north-east from Noyemberian.

The earthquake was accompanied by an explosion–and buildings shook vertically–rather than horizontally. The earthquake destroyed the walls of many houses in the villages of Koghb–Berdavan–and Dovegh; and significant damage was caused to the Agrobank branch and the Noyemberian bakery. Patients at the Noyemberian hospital were sent home because of heavy damage to the building.

The prime minister has created a special committee headed by the Head of the Department for Emergency Situations–Viacheslav Haroutiunian. A group of experts will soon arrive in Noyemberian to evaluate the extent of the damage.

The inhabitants of the earthquake damaged areas are staying in make shift shelters or with neighbors or relatives.
